Breastfeeding
Support
Individualised, compassionate breastfeeding support for your family
Breastfeeding support tailored to your needs
Many families experience problems with breastfeeding in the early days. Breastfeeding may be a natural process, but that does not mean it’s always easy. There are a few reasons why breastfeeding may not go as expected, but many issues can be overcome with help.
Fixing breastfeeding problems is a process. With evidence based support and an empathetic ear, we can work through your problems together and help you to meet your own personal goals. No issue is too big or small. If something is causing you concern, then it’s worth getting breastfeeding support as early as possible.
Common problems may involve getting baby to latch on, nipple soreness, breast pain, tongue tie, low milk supply, transitioning from bottle to breast feeds, slow weight gain or oversupply. Later on you may have questions about fussy or unsettled behaviour, or reflux symptoms. Some parents may have questions about combining breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Some may have medical needs or have babies with medical issues and want to discuss how breastfeeding will work for them. I am based in Leighton Buzzard, and also support families in Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Luton, Buckingham, Towcester, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and many surrounding areas. Do get in touch if I can help.
I am a member of Lactation Consultants Great Britain.
Before a visit please do:
- Make a list of any questions you may have
- If possible, try not to feed baby within an hour of the consultation so that a feeding can be observed during the visit (but if baby is too upset, give them a feed and we’ll work it out).
- Have any equipment available that you may have questions about (i.e. breast pumps, bottles etc.) in case we need to look at them together
- Clean the house!
- Ask everyone to leave. If you have a partner, a close friend, or a loved one who is a support to you, it’s a good idea to have them in the room during the visit.
- Feel the need to shower, get out of your pyjamas etc. if you don’t feel like it. The whole point of a home visit is that you don’t have to worry about that sort of thing.
- Hesitate to tell me if something doesn’t feel right. I need to know what’s working for you so that we can formulate a plan that allows you to meet your breastfeeding goals.
